I was born in Poland, and it was a good experience being in a country that has made such big changes in its own history. I was born during Communist times, and a number of years later I migrated from what had become a democratic country. Living there was a very special experience. I moved to London in 2006 and have lived happily in South London ever since, currently in the beautiful area of Wandsworth Common. My artwork was originally inspired by fashion photography, by the decorative and by the graphic aspects of art. A particular inspiration has been the work of Gustav Klimt, whose influence can be found in many of my creations, be it the colour, subject or in the nature of the underlying narrative which remains open to interpretation and discovery.
The primary subjects of my work are female figures and nature. I am enormously inspired by the success and individuality of women in the fields of art, music and literature, and this has encouraged me to explore different aspects of femininity; concentrating on its ephemeral, fragile and intangible characteristics.
Over time I have developed my own style and technique using fixed media such as ink, glue, paper and other, sometimes quite obscure, materials. I am driven by colour and texture, often using plain, bold layers of torn, crumpled paper against a softer background.
I focus on simplicity and joyfulness in my work. For me, painting is a spiritual experience. It is an incredibly empowering thing to be able to create something that may inspire others, and it is this which provides me with an additional energy and desire to pursue my own vision and imagery.
I have had a number of exhibitions in Poland and UK.
